The first thing we did was to turn off all of the ' Eco Solution ' settings since we didn't want the backlight level to change during our calibration.

Samsung UE55KS7500 Best TV Picture Settings

Most people will find this too dim and you should change this setting. Changing the backlight setting has no impact on picture quality and you should adjust this depending on the brightness of your room. We left the ' Sharpness ' to 0 to avoid adding any sharpening. The Q8FN features full array local dimming, and while we calibrated it with ' Local Dimming ' on ' Low ', we recommend setting it to ' High '.

This is also known as the 'Soap Opera Effect'. The ' Judder Reduction ' slider affects 30 fps or lower content, and the ' Blur Reduction ' slider affects 60fps content. The gamma setting adjustment was set to 2 since it was the closest to our calibration goal. The TV will automatically set the Gamma type automatically depending on the content.

In the ' Color space ' setting, it is preferable to leave it to ' Auto '. When set to auto, the color space changes to match the type of content you are watching automatically. Normally we do not recommend doing this as the TV is already fairly accurate out of the box.

Anything below 10 will soften the image, and text will look blurry. Set 'Game Mode' to 'On'. To enable motion interpolation select 'Game Motion Plus Settings'. From there you can adjust the 'Blur Reduction' and 'Judder Reduction' sliders to whichever you prefer.

There is a small increase in input lag when using these options, but it is still low. Note that when in game mode, the TV won't change the backlight setting and the local dimming setting automatically, so it is preferable to set the backlight to max and set the local dimming to high. The following are the results of the white balance and colorspace calibration on our unit. They are provided for reference, and should not be copied as the calibration values vary per individual unit even for the same model and same size as the TV we reviewed due to manufacturing tolerances.

If you want to try them you will need to enter all values shown, as all of them are active at the same time. If you end up with worse picture quality, simply reset them to the default values.

First Prev 3 of 10 Go to page. Oct 25, I assumed brightness had to be lower to reveal more detail and contrast should be higher to make it brighter. Belvedere Member. Oct 27, 1,First, a note on the differences of the 8-series models. The KS models are flat, while the KS is a curved screen. All else in this review should be the same except the dimensions and prices. Samsung, the ever vigilant master of sleight of term has new appellations, handles, and sobriquets by which to call their visual magic.

Some might call it eyewash, because the features are pretty much the same. It shows up in light flow through on the screen.

You will notice this standout feature when viewing onscreen scenes with natural light coming into rooms. Also with onscreen in room lighting. Read more about that and color below in the Quantum Dot Color section.

UHD Dimming offers some increased precision regarding contrast, color, and detail levels needed for each part of the screen to coordinate and excellent overall image. Since the dimming mechanism on the KS is from the edges, we cant really call it true local dimming — a term that describes a TVs ability to brighten or darken specific areas of the screen independently from one another.

This feature is effectively supposed to increase contrast in various areas of the picture. At times, it darkens the screen a lot, especially on the higher settings. Edge Lit dimming has never been one of the best features to me. I like the full boat full array micro dimming much better which has a major impact on contrast. The manipulation of the edge lighting as in the KS to my eyes only marginally impacts contrast in the picture and is not much of an improvement.

This applies to the brightness and luminosity of images. Contrast is enhanced by increased brightness rather than deeper blacks. Rather than just increase the brightness of the picture overall though, the real purpose of HDR is to increase contrast in various image areas of the picture. It improves the presentation in the brighter parts of the picture and this creates more contrast with surrounding darker parts of the picture.

Since picture contrast is one of the primary features in improving perceived depth, HDR is considered a major picture quality improvement even though it may not increase the overall contrast of the panel a lot.

Adjust this value to your room lighting or to a comfortable level. High values won't deteriorate picture quality. Leave 'Sharpness' to 0 so no extra sharpness are applied to the picture. Leave it off otherwise. Use low custom values like for slightly better motion without much of the soap opera effect.

If you find the picture too dull or yellowish, use a colder value. The following are the results of the white balance and colorspace calibration on our unit.

To enable game mode, select it from the 'Special Viewing Mode'. We set 'Backlight' at 4 to get as close to cdm2 as possible.

This is suitable for a totally black room but higher values are needed for brighter rooms. Adjust according to your room. Anything higher add over-sharpening artifacts. To get better motion with a minimum of the SOE, use low custom values. If it appears too dull or yellowish for you, use a colder temperature like 'Warm1'.
